The material runs from Francisco Tárrega’s Gran Vals, composed in 1902, through the Nokia 2110 in 1994 and the paid download markets that followed, to the years between 2008 and 2012 when the business stopped being counted separately. Every chart position, certification and market figure on the site is attributed to the organisation that published it — Billboard, the RIAA, Nielsen, Gartner or the company concerned — and carries the year it refers to.

The site is organised in five sections. Gran Vals covers the tune itself and the defaults that followed it. Handsets takes the phones one at a time. Formats covers the chips and file types. The Charts follows the commercial record, and The Decline the figures from the end of the market.
